21 mars: Début de notre incursion dans la Vallée sacrée des Incas avec notre visite de la ville de Pisac et de la forteresse d'Ollantaytambo. En route, nous nous sommes arrêtés pour nourrir et caresser des lamas et des alpacas; les filles ont naturellement adoré cette activité.

Very impressive site. The city and region was conquered, razed and rebuilt (beautifully) by Inca (Emperor) Pachacuti, who then used it as a private feud, and left it to his extended family upon dying.

We loved walking along the perfectly straight, perpendicular streets. They often had small drains or canals to control the runoff from the mountains. Great engineering |
Machu Picchu
22 mars: visite du fameux site de Machu Picchu. Que dire? Nous avons été enchantés et totalement charmés et avons passé cinq heures à déambuler sur le site. Même si on a tous vu de très nombreuses photos de ce site, nous avons été éblouis par cette cité perdue des Incas. Les mots me manquent

Cusco
Another imperial capital. Very, very busy and dangerous traffic competes for tourists' attention with old inca buildings, or more precisely, colonial buildings with inca foundations.

Wonderful lunch served by the owner (seen behind us). Soup, plus main dish plus barley juice, for a whooping 2 dollars each... And the food, as most of the time in Peru, was good! |
